Monthly Startup Monterey Bay Tech Meetup – It’s all about the “pitch!” Practice that pitch for your great idea or demo your product before you meet investors or participate in the business plan competition. Meet other aspiring and committed entrepreneurs in the region. The Institute will offer opportunities to pitch your idea or demo your product before your big day.

Startup Hackathon Monterey Bay – Startup Hackathon Monterey Bay is an annual tech competition which provides opportunities to students and professionals to design, develop, demonstrate and learn innovative mobile applications using Android technology. While there will be opportunities to try new technology and learn new features, teams of students with help from mentors will produce a real, working prototype application in return for meals and a chance for fame and fortune. The event kicks off the on the Friday before Fall Break (late November) with ideas proposed by Monterey Bay organizations. Teams come together to choose an idea and have the rest of the weekend to build a working prototype application. Teams will then present their work to the public on the Sunday afternoon of that weekend and winners will be chosen.

Startup Weekend Monterey Bay – At Startup Weekend Monterey Bay, you’ll be immersed in the ideal environment for startup magic to happen. Student and community entrepreneurs will work together to build startups in one chaotic weekend. The ultimate hands-on learning experience, SWMB allows innovators from all disciplines to come together for an intensive experience in building businesses.

Startup Challenge Monterey Bay – Startup Challenge Monterey Bay is an annual regional new business competition. Entrepreneurs, start-ups and emerging companies showcase and develop their business concepts while competing for prizes. The Challenge provides workshops and mentoring to support the founding, funding and growth of new and innovative businesses in the Monterey Bay region. The Challenge empowers entrepreneurs to communicate their ideas effectively to investors, customers and employees. Enter the Challenge today!

Startup Monterey Bay Youth Programs

CSUMB Code Camp

CODECamp @ CSUMB is a fun, engaging summer program on the CSUMB campus for middle school students to learn the fundamental concepts and skills of computing and programming in a college setting.

CODECamp helps students to learn three programming environment: Scratch, GameMaker and Python. Students will complete a game, a Mobile app and a Python web application in a collaborative, fun environment. Students will also experience the university learning environment and interacting with university professors. CODECamp is offered by the Institute for Innovation and Economic Development at California State University Monterey Bay. The program is directed by CSUMB’s Computer Science professor with outstanding college and high school students as teaching assistants in the new state-of-the-art “BIT – Business and Information Technology” building.

CSUMB TIDE Camp

The Technology, Innovation and Design Experience (TIDE) summer camp provides young aspiring innovators from across the globe, ages 13-18 (high school), the opportunity to build critical technology, innovation, design, communication and leadership skills and forge valuable multicultural connections in a US college environment. This two-week camp starts with trending technology workshops such as game and app design, sprinkled with motivating talks by prolific entrepreneurs and world-class professors, and concludes with a three-day team innovation competition. In the competition stage, the young innovators are coached by university professors and seasoned professionals, practice leadership and collaboration skills and present to industry executive and investors. Multinational team-based games, collaboration and sports, such as video games, bike trip, ocean kayaking are infused throughout the TIDE @ CSUMB.
